This wonderful wide-ranging tour visits some of North India’s finest sights: Delhi, the enchanting Taj Mahal in Agra and the extraordinary temples of Khajuraho; its holiest city, Varanasi on the banks of the Ganges; and the less frequented area of Bundelkhand with its stunning riverside temples in the small town of Orchha. A spectacular flight across the Himalayas then brings you to the mountain Kingdom of Nepal where there is plenty of time to explore the capital and its surroundings before moving on to search for rhino and elusive tigers in the world-famous Chitwan National Park. A final, peaceful day in the beautiful Pokhara Valley allows time to reflect on all that this journey has revealed.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Delhi
On arrival transfer and stay at The Oberoi Hotel.
Day 2: Delhi
After a leisurely start, explore the wide boulevards and grand monuments of Lutyens’ New Delhi, before venturing into the narrow streets of Old Delhi to see its many fascinating monuments.
Day 3: Delhi - Agra
Very early morning train to Agra. On arrival stay 1 night at the sumptuous The Oberoi Amarvilas, with its exceptional views of the Taj Mahal. Proceed to nearby Fatehpur Sikri, a magnificent deserted city, originally built by Akbar as his capital. After lunch see Agra Fort before visiting the glorious Taj Mahal at sunset.
Day 4: Agra - Jhansi - Orchha
Early morning train to Jhansi and drive to Orchha for 2 nights at the Amar Mahal Hotel. Spend the day exploring the fort and the stunning hilltop and riverside temples that dominate this small town.
Day 5: Orchha - Datia - Sonagir - Orchha
Excursion to the beautiful 17th century palace at Datia. Continue to the fine Jain Temples at Sonagiri which are reached by a long flight of steps.
Day 6: Orchha - Khajuraho
Morning drive to Khajuraho. Stay 1 night at the Lalit Temple View Hotel. Afternoon explore the extraordinary temples scattered around the town, which date back to the 10th and 11th centuries.
Day 7: Khajuraho - Varanasi
Morning flight to Varanasi and stay 2 nights at the Gateway Hotel. Evening boat ride on the holy River Ganges to witness the Aarti ceremony.
Day 8: Udaipur - Jaipur
Early morning exclusive boat ride to observe the riverside rituals. Afternoon tour of what is considered to be one of India’s oldest and holiest cities.
Day 9: Varanasi - Kathmandu
Early afternoon flight across the Himalayas to Kathmandu in Nepal. Stay 2 nights at Dwarika’s Hotel.
Day 10: Kathmandu
Morning tour of the city, seeing Swayambunath and the heart of the ‘old town’. After lunch explore the sights of the Kathmandu valley, including Bhaktapur and the stupa at Boudhnath.
Day 11: Kathmandu - Bharatpur - Chitwan National Park
Morning flight to Bharatpur and on arrival drive to Chitwan. Stay 2 nights at Taj Meghauli Serai Lodge. Afternoon game drive either by jeep or on elephant-back.
Day 12: Chitwan National Park
Early morning and afternoon game drives, searching for wildlife and hopefully to spot a tiger.
Day 13: Chitwan - Pokhara
Morning drive to Pokhara which is surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. Stay 1 night at the Shangri-La Village. Afternoon at leisure or optional excursions.
Day 14: Pokhara - Kathmandu - Delhi
Morning flight to Kathmandu and connect on to Delhi. Room at disposal at The JW Marriott Hotel Aerocity.
Day 15: Depart Delhi
Early morning departure for onward destination.
